Dirk Serpinski
ConcordiaTECHNOLOGY AND INTIMACY
To cope with his crippling fear of death, Dirk Serpinski (1989) tried to devise a plan to cheat life and become immortal. By combining pseudo-scientific research and religious analogies with contemporary technological developments, he believed to have found a way for mankind to transcend the limitations of the physical realm and become immortal creator-gods, all knowing, all seeing masters of digital time and space.
After the first installation of this work, in a fit of psychotic rage Serpinski destroyed most of his work and ended up hospitalised. Now on medication, he is left puzzling back the leftover pieces and figuring out what part of his research was real and what part his own reality.
